Westchester SC and FC Naples Resume Hostilities For The 2026 Season

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of the match I just want to go on record and state that I am not a huge fan of making everything a derby, but for better or worse the powers that be have decided on making this a thing and who am I to fight progress? So I made a few calls and lined up a corporate sponsor.
So with that I give you The Snowbird Derby presented by U-Haul.
U-Haul: Renting Trucks To People Who Shouldn’t Be Driving Trucks Since 1945!
OK , with that bit of business out of the way, it's onto the game…
Recent Form: The Spider-Man Pointing Meme Derby
At some point Saturday night somebody should probably just project the Spider-Man pointing meme onto the scoreboard.
Because right now FC Naples and Westchester SC are basically living the same season.
Naples enter the match talking about resilience, injuries, adversity, and performances that deserved better. Westchester could copy and paste most of that directly into their own press releases, especially after seeing their away scoring drought stretch to 412 minutes in Indiana despite long stretches of quality play.
Both clubs continue to control possession for stretches.
Both clubs continue to create chances.
Both clubs continue walking away asking how they didn’t get more from matches.
The difference is emotional momentum.
Naples at least found a release valve last weekend, surviving Sporting Club Jax in the Prinx Tires USL Cup after enduring the club’s first four-match losing streak. Westchester, meanwhile, arrives in Florida still trying to shake off a brutal late collapse against New Jersey that turned a signature cup victory into heartbreak deep in stoppage time.
In many ways, Saturday night feels less like two clubs meeting and more like two mirrors staring at each other from opposite ends of I-95.
Players To Watch
Westchester SC
If Westchester are going to finally snap the road scoring drought, Mackic is starting to feel like the right guy to provide the moment of brilliance. His strike against New Jersey was the exact type of individual quality WSC have been missing away from Memorial Field. With Naples likely looking to clog the midfield and slow transitions, Mackic’s ability to create space for himself around the top of the box could become critical.

The Dutchman finally got on the scoresheet against New Jersey and Westchester will be hoping it opens the floodgates a bit. WSC have done enough good work in possession during recent road matches to create opportunities, but turning buildup into actual goals remains the issue. If Blommestijn can start consistently converting chances, it changes the complexion of this team quickly.

Luca Marinelli
Thrown into action following Andrew Hammersley’s injury, Marinelli has quietly kept Westchester competitive despite the ugly road results. The numbers may not flatter the Golden Apple away from home, but the young keeper has come up with several big stops during this difficult stretch. In fact, he has played so well that what began as a 25-day contract has now been extended through the remainder of the season. Against a Naples side that loves testing teams in transition, his composure will matter.
FC Naples

Julian Cisneros
If Naples have developed an emotional heartbeat during this recent rough patch, it might be Cisneros. His “we’ll go toe to toe with anybody” comments perfectly reflect the mentality Naples are carrying into this match. Expect him to bring plenty of edge and physicality to a game that already feels like it could get chippy quickly.

Luca Mastrantonio
Naples have struggled for consistent finishing lately, making late runs from defenders increasingly important. Mastrantonio’s stoppage-time goal against Spokane showed the type of opportunistic play Naples may need again Saturday night if chances remain limited.

Joshua Grant
Should Edward Delgado’s injury situation linger, all eyes may turn toward the youngest player on the Naples roster. Grant became an instant storyline after stepping into the Sporting Jax cup match and helping Naples survive penalties under pressure. A young keeper suddenly finding himself in a high-pressure environment against a desperate Westchester side has “USL chaos” written all over it.
Predictions: Pain
If recent form has taught us anything, it’s that both of these clubs are simultaneously better and more frustrating than their records suggest.
AI Prediction
Naples will likely control stretches at home and feed off the energy of a crowd still buzzing from their dramatic USL Cup victory over Sporting Jax. Westchester meanwhile continues to look like a team one breakthrough away from turning competitive performances into actual results, especially with the defense showing real improvement over the last few weeks.
The biggest question remains whether the Golden Apple can finally solve their road scoring issues before frustration starts creeping into the match mentally. If they do, there are chances to be had against a Naples side that has shown vulnerability defensively during this rough stretch.
Of course, this is USL League One, where chaos is never more than one weird bounce, penalty shout, or stoppage-time moment away.
FC Naples 1 - 1 Westchester SC
Westchester finally snap the away scoring drought, Naples continue their run of emotionally exhausting matches, and everybody leaves Florida feeling simultaneously encouraged and slightly annoyed.
My Prediction
Honestly? I was inclined to agree with the AI prediction until I realized these two clubs basically exist to manufacture emotional damage right now.
So let’s add some proper USL chaos into the mix.
Westchester finally snap the away scoring drought. Naples continue looking dangerous despite their recent struggles. Somebody scores early. Somebody blows a lead. Somebody’s supporters spend 20 minutes convincing themselves three points were secured before the universe intervenes.
Given the recent form of both clubs, a calm and comfortable match feels almost impossible.
FC Naples 2 - 2 Westchester SC
With the way these teams have been living lately, it only feels right that this ends with a dramatic late equalizer from one side or the other and both clubs somehow feeling lucky to escape and annoyed they didn’t win.
